My cairn terrier lucy is only about 8 months old and we were given her about two months ago by a friend, so she has already had to adjust to a new home. She is very lively and clever and has a great personality. I live beside my partners parents at the moment so lucy has been playing with their puppy fred for quite some time, so she is used to his company.
She will be alone in the back garden in our new home. How can I settle her into her new home, especially during the first night or so? Should I bring her to our bedroom when we move for the first night or put her in the kitchen where she will be sleeping in future? Thanks a million!
For gods sake, what a ridiculous answer! >:|
Thanks Kip's Mom, yeh she already sleeps in a different room so ill put her in there.
Does anyone else have any other tips on how to move her, im really worried that it will stress her out and upset her.

Start as you mean to go on - if you want her to sleep in the kitchen, then start her off there. Where is she sleeping now? Since if she is already sleeping with you, it will be harder to transition to another room in the new house.

Good luck!

Add: reported the first answer - you are a sick individual

Add#2 - I just moved with my dog - no problems. I kept him in an empty room with a bowl of water and a toy while the moving men were there, and he's had no problems at the new place - just keep your routine as similar as possible, and your dog should be fine!

ok. ive moved like, 8 times with dogs. keep them in a room they like, without boxes. they freak out when they see you putting stuff in boxes. then move everything to your home, then get the dogs, and take them there after everything is out of your house. good luck!

You can't teach an old dog new tricks right?

I would choose whatever you feel is best for Lucy and stick by it, dogs do have a sense of home and a routine for best results switching places won't put her out but you have to decide yourself no go zones. I say kitchen maybe any trouble i'm sure a bark in the night will tell you.

You wouldn't have me in your bedroom first night would you!!!
